The work presented is undoubtedly interesting, and the site is rich in images, animations and graphic effects; however, the limited text can make it difficult to understand what's going on. Arc! is a Norwegian site - in Norwegian - covering traditional architecture and art nouveau architecture, and is profusely illustrated throughout. Features include biographies on Norwegian architects, as well as selected architects from France, Sweden and Belgium; a presentation of Bordeaux architecture; special features on wooden architecture and churches; and a number of articles and links. Recently redesigned and restructured, I can't help feeling that the site has lost some of its previous charm; though the amount of content seems to have increased, navigation around the site is complex and confusing - in short, the new layout of the site seems just too clever for its own good. Ever modest, Architecture.com describes itself as "one of the world's most extensive built environment portals". It is certainly true - this well-organised site, run by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), claims to have 250,000 pages of useful information about architecture, architects, and RIBA itself, including news, competitions, events, jobs, and many other useful features. One of the flagship services is the RIBA library catalogue - a free, regularly updated index to 175,000 articles from 300 journals in 20 languages, 35,000 books, and over 1 million items in the special collections. Elsewhere, a helpful RIBA Links Library covers over 1000 architecture-related websites - including Sapling of course. Some might find the grey interface a little bleak, but that barely detracts from what is probably the definitive architecture resource - excellent. Awarded a Sapling Commendation. Important architectural buildings and journeys are described through text, pictures and maps, and members can also learn about - and have the opportunity to take part in - upcoming trips that ArchiTravel organises. Archpedia - short for architecture encyclopedia - describes itself as "a comprehensive guide to world famous architects and their architecture... looking at the best architecture of yesterday, today and tomorrow". While not really an 'encyclopedia' in the traditional sense of the word, it is nonetheless an impressive, well-maintained and attractively designed resource. Among its many features are a number of interesting articles; an architectural glossary; a firms directory; architectural portfolios; and details of exhibitions and competitions. Other highlights include an excellent 'Style Directory', tracing the evolution of architectural styles from Neolithic to Deconstructivism, and useful links to architectural magazines in print and on the Internet. It certain has some interesting and attractively illustrated content, under such evocative headings as "a welcoming abode", "bright accents" and "artistic inspiration", and including links to some interesting articles and related sites. However, a year after Sapling's previous review the news section and discussion forum remain empty, so there seems little prospect of these being developed in the near future. [GAS, 28 Aug 2006].

The site is based in Mexico, and written in Spanish throughout. The home page features some good illustrated articles and book information, while the 'Dycusa' and 'Escala' sections provide an introduction to the companies of that name, Escala specialising in project management and Dycusa in construction. This makes Edifier feel more like a commercial site than the 'information site' it claims to be. Still, it is early days, and over time the site will no doubt grow as a resource. With the tagline "A website for architecture students", the US-based Stuck in Studio site is based around the premise that "architecture students are always in studio. As an architecture student you are expected to pull all nighters and go days without sleep right before your final presentation." Against this backdrop, architecture graduate Pat McLoughlin has created Stuck in Studio "to give architecture students a way to connect with other architecture students, a way to find a job after graduation, and overall a way to take a break from that project you have been slaving over for the last 6 hours straight." Content is organised into several well signposted sections, including a 'Resources' page that provides articles, job search, competitions and external links, and a richly illustrated blog that aims to "give students a way to find inspiration" by providing posts that are specific to architecture students. In due course, the site promises that there will be a forum for students to share discussions about studio related topics as well as an "architecture student apparel" store. Nevertheless, though Stuck in Studio is a fledgling site - only launched in January 2011 - it is already shaping into an engaging and useful resource. Tree Hugger is well written and despite the name does not preach at you, but seeks to inform. Coverage is vast, with headings covering accessories, 'almosts', alternative energy, architecture, audio/video, aviation, bathroom, bedroom, bikes, biopolymer, books, botanical, cars and celebrities, through to solar, sports and technology. In addition, there is also a link to Hugg (http://www.hugg.com/) a sister site and green news story harvester. Here, "all posts start out in the queue. Each time a story is Hugged, it climbs the ranks. If a story gets enough Huggs, it jumps up to the front page where it can be seen by everyone who visits". There is also Tree Hugger TV (http://www.treehuggertv.com/), again a sister site, which offers a video version of the web magazine, featuring material produced by anyone who shares Tree Hugger's passions and can operate a video camera. Vitruvio.ch is an excellent site which gathers together information about architecture on the Web. Written in English and Italian, the site's coverage is vast, complementing its own content with links to external resources. Highlights include 'Masters': a comprehensive index of famous architects; sections covering various periods of architectural history; and a series of architectural travel guides. Information can be easily browsed, or there is a very good search tool too. Redesigned a year ago, the site's new interface is disappointingly bland, but Vitruvio.ch remains a useful and important architecture site. Awarded a Sapling Commendation. [GAS, 8 Sep 2006].
