SCRAN - Multimedia Resources On History And Culture

SCRAN describes itself as "the history and culture site which lets you learn directly by accessing images, movies, sounds and virtual reality". The site offers instant access to images, sounds, movies and learning resources about Scotland, and contains over 330,000 images from museums, galleries and archives. Access was originally free, but is now restricted to subscribers only - however, many institutions already subscribe to SCRAN (access is via an Athens username and password), and home subscriptions are offered at a realistic price. Overall, SCRAN is attractively designed, easy to use, prolifically illustrated, and a very useful and innovative resource. Awarded a Sapling Commendation. [GAS, 20 Jun 2006].

Sketching House

Sketching House is a website dedicated to teaching, discussing and blogging about art of all types. The two people behind the site - Marisol and Alex - say that they have created it in order to share drawing tips and techniques, to review art products across many mediums, and to offer fun and easy tutorials that can help anyone to draw. Certainly, the creators' personalities shines through the site, with the home page a riot of colour and imagery that encourages the visitor to explore further. [GAS, 22 Mar 2009].
