This thing is used as a decoration above doors and sometimes as a free-standing decorative thing. It is a flat triangule or a flat gabled rectangle. The top point of the triangle or gable is cut out to a roundish hole so that the rising edges of the triangle don't quite meet. Inside the cut out hole hole is a member of round cross section. The member generally has the look of a chess pawn, bedpost, or pepper grinder.
I am wondering what this device is called. If I knew the name, I could look up a picture. Having only a picture, how do I find a name?
