Designed and maintained by Wiltshire-based Cathedral Communications Limited, buildingconservation.com is described as "the online information centre for the conservation and restoration of historic buildings, churches and garden landscapes", drawing its content from The Building Conservation Directory, Historic Churches and Historic Gardens. Conservation OnLine (CoOL)
 http://palimpsest.stanford.edu/

CoOL, a project of the Preservation Department of Stanford University Libraries, is a full text library of conservation information, covering a wide spectrum of topics of interest to those involved with the conservation of library, archives and museum materials. Conservation topics are sorted into different themes, or visitors can also consult an author index. The site also hosts the homepages (or mirrors) of other conservation-related organisations, covers news and events, and has some useful links to mailing list archives. The organisation and design of the site is a little haphazard, and is starting to look very dated. However, the site continues to be well maintained, and undoubtedly features many useful resources. Ian Evans's World of Old Houses
 http://www.oldhouses.com.au/

Created by Ian Evans from Australia, this useful and well-maintained guide is aimed at anyone restoring, renovating, remodelling or maintaining an old house, heritage building or traditional architecture. The site provides general information about building conservation, together with directories of suppliers of products and services for Australia, New Zealand, the UK, USA, Canada and South Africa. An e-mail information service is provided, together with a page of links to many other conservation and heritage sites worldwide, a section of frequently asked questions, and a list of useful books organised by country. One particularly innovative feature of the site is a listing of nearly 120 essays on various aspects of restoring old houses - unlike the rest of the site, access to these is not free of charge, but they can be ordered for a reasonable price. Awarded a Sapling Commendation. [GAS, 23 Jan 2006].

Our Heritage
 http://www.ourheritage.net/

Our Heritage is an eclectic but well-maintained and up-to-date site seemingly based around the premise that "the best way to learn history is to experience it". The aim or coverage of the site is not stated, but its focus appears to be the local history of Alberta, Canada, together with some additional features of wider heritage interest. The Historic Picture Quizzes seem rather fun, and the section of heritage links is quite useful. The design of the site is rather gruesome, though. [GAS, 6 Nov 2005].

Period Property UK
 http://www.periodproperty.co.uk/

Period Property UK was established, its website says, "to facilitate an 'active community of interest' for the benefit of people who share a passion for living in, and caring for, buildings that constitute part of our British heritage". The site is attractively designed and well organised, and provides period home improvement advice, listings of period property for sale in the UK, and insurance and restoration services for old houses and listed buildings. Highlights include the Agony Uncle section (for expert advice about maintaining or conserving period properties), and an exceptionally popular discussion forum. Overall, Period Property UK is a rich and enjoyable site which strikes a good balance between its more commercial content and its wealth of useful information and tips. Awarded a Sapling Commendation. [GAS, 24 Aug 2006].
