The Cambridge Two
 http://www.cambridgetwo.com/

On 17 December 1999, Ruth Wyner, the Director of Wintercomfort for the homeless, and John Brock, the Day Centre Manager, were sent to prison because some of the people they were helping were secretly exchanging drugs on the charity premises, eventually spending 208 days behind bars. Whatever your view of these events, this is a rich and interesting site that acts as a record of Ruth and John's story, telling the history of the campaign to secure their release, and including details of media coverage and related links, as well as their own personal accounts and messages. Awarded a Sapling Commendation. [MG/RS/GAS, 10 May 2006].

Habitat for Humanity Great Britain
 http://www.habitatforhumanity.org.uk/

Habitat for Humanity is an international Christian housing charity that builds houses with volunteers, and families in need of decent homes - regardless of race or religion. The houses are sold to homeowner families for no profit, on an interest free mortgage, and the homeowner's mortgage repayments are then used to build more homes around the world. Habitat for Humanity aims to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. Well organised and attractively laid out, the site contains statistics to demonstrate the need for decent housing around the world, with a 'Where we build' section showing how a new home is built every 27 minutes, and 'Faces and Places' explaining Habitat for Humanity's approach to eliminating poverty housing. In addition, the site features opportunities to become directly involved in Habitat for Humanity's work in the UK and overseas. The less adventurous can become involved through donating online or by following the latest developments in the 'Newsroom' section. Awarded a Sapling Commendation. [GAS, 29 Apr 2006].

Walter Segal Self Build Trust
 http://www.segalselfbuild.co.uk/

The WSSBT is a UK trust that helps people to build their own homes and community buildings. The Trust's services (such as advice, information, training and support) are available to everyone, especially those in housing need or on low incomes, including local authorities, housing associations and any other body interested in building. The site includes information about the Trust; an excellent archive of housing and community projects; a resources section with articles and news; details of publications; and a useful page of self-build links. The site's insistence on shrinking the browser window is an unnecessary irritation though, particularly as it then has to add horizontal and vertical scroll bars. [GAS, 8 May 2006].
