Employment in Voluntary Housing (EVH) is a federation of Scottish employers in the voluntary housing sector, and as such is "a unique organisation - there is no other employers' association in the voluntary housing movement in Britain". According to its website, EVH has grown from just over 50 members in 1992 to 170 current member organisations, and these are listed in a comprehensive members directory. Overall the site is an impressive resource, with sections covering background about EVH, news, member services, recruitment services, and training and events. Formerly known as the House Builders Federation, the Home Builders Federation (HBF) is "the principal trade organisation for private sector housebuilders and voice of the home building industry in England and Wales". According to the site, the HBF's membership of accounts for over 80% of all new houses built in England and Wales in any one year, and includes companies of all sizes, ranging from multi national household names through to regionally based businesses and small private builders. The HBF site is well-designed and informative, with a sleek and professional look. The site is packed with information, including an up-to-date calendar of events; a consumer centre, with articles offering "a perspective on manufactured housing"; community and developer resources; a media centre, with manufactured housing information; technical resources; and a members-only section. The association's website is attractively presented, easy to follow, and full of housing-related information. As well as general information about NAHB and details about membership, the site features a comprehensive resources section, an up-to-date meetings and events listing, a newsroom with press releases and other facts and figures, and an extensive list of publications. The National Housing Federation describes itself as "the voice of affordable housing", representing 1,400 independent, not-for-profit housing associations in England. The Federation's site has a neat and clean interface and is an impressive resource, including news, policy documents, regional information, job vacancies, an excellent links directory, and a useful library section with downloadable publications. The NHER is the UK's first and largest energy rating scheme. According to the site, members of the NHER include more than 200 local authorities, over 130 Housing Associations, 8 energy suppliers, over 900 builders, and more than 250 consultants, architects and surveyors. Hence, the NHER's objective is "to provide excellent technical and business support for individuals and organisations who are trying to improve the energy efficiency of the homes that they are responsible for". The site offers a comprehensive introduction to the scheme, with sections covering software, training, consultancy and consumer information, together with targeted information for the various professions - consultants, energy companies, social landlords and builders - and a small page of links. The design of the site is attractive and intuitive, though the graphic-only menu inhibits accessibility - text links should really be provided too. [MG/RS/GAS, 30 Apr 2006].
