The National Trust
 http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/

Founded in 1895 by three Victorian philanthropists - Miss Octavia Hill, Sir Robert Hunter and Canon Hardwicke Rawnsley - the National Trust now cares for over 248,000 hectares of countryside in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, plus almost 600 miles of coastline and more than 200 buildings and gardens of outstanding interest and importance. The Trust's website is vast - as well as details of all properties open to the public, there are sections covering (among other things) environment and conservation, holidays and travel, learning and discovery, policy and campaigns (with downloadable documents), and membership. The site also includes an excellent section of related links. The design of the site is attractive and logical, and a complete large text version is available for visually impaired users. An impressive site, awarded a Sapling Commendation. [GAS, 12 Nov 2007].

Natural Burial Co-operative
 http://www.naturalburial.ca/

Launched in April 2006 and founded upon a co-operative business model that "honours conservation, sustainability and environmental and socially responsible business values", Canada's Natural Burial Co-operative is "committed to developing natural burial funeral services, products and memorials, which enhance, protect, and preserve our natural environment". By working to establish natural burial cemeteries across Canada, the Natural Burial Co-operative seeks to preserve green spaces and provide what it argues is "a dignified and environmentally responsive burial option". Providing a wealth of useful news and background information within a crisp and attractive interface, the site frames natural burial as "an environmentally sustainable funeral alternative that embraces the natural cycle of life. Rather than encouraging the unnecessary consumption of resources such as concrete vaults, metal caskets, and chemical preservation… a natural burial creates a living memorial using native trees, shrubs and plants. These living memorials then create living sanctuaries for friends and family to visit and connect with nature and each other". [GAS, 27 Aug 2006].
