About Japanese Gardens
 http://www.aboutjapanesegardens.org/

As its name implies, About Japanese Gardens is dedicated to providing information about Japanese gardens, featuring pictures, a very good links section, and information on Japanese garden landscaping, design, and maintenance. Though the content is interesting, the site's organisation is a little haphazard - it would be greatly enhanced by some information about who's behind the site, and a clearer sense of how all the content fits together to form a coherent resource. Botanists, plantsmen, designers & gardeners of note
 http://www.sisley.co.uk/gardners.htm

This single page, part of the Sisley Garden Tours site, offers a useful A-Z of plant hunters, landscape and garden designers, authors of books on gardening down the ages, botanists, garden owners and others with close associations with gardens and gardening. For many entries, there are links to further information available elsewhere on the Sisley site, with some excellent photographs. [GAS, 4 Oct 2005].

Essential British Gardens
 http://www.gardenarena.co.uk/

Essential British Gardens is a well-maintained digest of some of the finest gardens and arboretums throughout Britain. Entries can be browsed by region, although the definition (South Central England, anyone?) and articulation (North Lincolnshire is part of 'North East England', for example) of the regions is rather bizarre - it would be better just to stick to the standard UK regions used by everyone else. However, a search facility is also provided, so finding the garden you want is not too complex. Some of the descriptions are more full than others, but many of the entries do have useful links to related websites, photographs, or other information provided elsewhere. [GAS, 11 Oct 2006].

Gardenvisit.com Gardens Guide
 http://www.gardenvisit.com/

The Gardenvisit.com Gardens Guide reviews places of interest to gardeners: properties open to the public, historic estates, botanic collections, websites, hotels, design studios, nurseries and product suppliers. It describes 1000 parks and gardens open to the public in Europe and America, organised by country and (in the UK) by county, with useful information such as opening times, although it is not clear whether this information is up-to-date. This site is impressive in its coverage - there is a section of diagrams covering different historic styles of garden design, with links to examples of gardens influenced by that style; a history of garden design; and an index of garden designers. On the downside, the site's design is dating really badly, and the quality of images is poor. Gardenvisit.com remains a useful site for garden historians and garden visitors alike, but an improved appearance and interface would help do full justice to its impressive content. Awarded a Sapling Commendation. [GAS, 11 Oct 2006].

Historic Parks and Gardens of Wales
 --NEW URL-- http://www.gardensofwales.org.uk/

This billingual website (in English and Welsh) lists a selection of what it calls "the most accessible and rewarding gardens in Wales", together with a brief description, directions for getting there and conditions of entry. The information about the 92 gardens is clearly laid out, although the overall look of the site is a little unprofessional. Some of the gardens' entries are illustrated with good quality photographs - hopefully more images will be added in due course. Unfortunately, the site claims to have been last updated in 2003, so there is no guarantee that the opening times and other information given are correct. [GAS, 9 Sep 2006].

The Flowering Garden
 http://www.thefloweringgarden.com/

Developed by Tim and Esther Tye, The Flowering Garden has a simple but appealing concept. Describing itself as "a place on the web to admire flowering plants and trees", the idea is essentially to create an online garden as compensation for living in "a small apartment where there is no opportunity for us to do any gardening". Each entry provides information on growing the plant concerned, and includes photographs of different species. Though the plant information is pleasingly executed, the site as a whole is let down a little by its intrusive Google and in-text advertising. [GAS, 13 Dec 2010].

Tree Information - Tom's Tree Service
 http://www.tomtree.com/

Tom's Tree Service describes itself as a website "created for the average homeowner to assist with safeguarding their most important real estate asset - their tree and landscape plantings". To this end, the site has a good range of tree-related information and links organised under themes as diverse as irrigation, stump info, mulch, pruning and maintenance. Unfortunately, the site's scrolling and flashing effects, and the rather garish banner and pop-up ads - the combination of which managed to crash my browser - detract from what is otherwise a worthwhile resource. Your Healthy Gardens
 http://www.your-healthy-gardens.com/

Your Healthy Gardens is "dedicated to providing free quality information on home gardening and landscape design". Information is written with the beginner gardener in mind; however, the site states that gardeners of all skill levels will find useful tips and techniques. Topics covered include garden care and maintenance, including proper soil preparation, watering methods, rose care and selection, how plants grow, fertilisers, drought tolerant plants and choosing the right plants for specific growing conditions. Landscaping styles and design are also examined and explained. The site's interface is functional but fine, with straightforward navigation and decent images throughout. The 'Copyright 2007' tag suggests, however, that the site may not be actively maintained. [GAS, 28 Oct 2010].
