Updated Pevsner Index CD-ROM launched

Fans of Pevsner's Buildings of England can now get a CD-ROM that indexes all 55 current volumes from this iconic series.
Designed and compiled by Michael Good to meet the needs of architects, historians, researchers, planners, designers, conservators, heritage professionals, librarians, and building enthusiasts, this comprehensive 2005 index, an updated and expanded version of the 1995 database, features over 550,000 records.
Michael told Sapling.info:
"The Index allows searching by personal name, place or site, building type and artefacts or contents across selected or all of the 55 completed volumes, thereby providing unique access to the series' contents.
"The 2005 CD-ROM comprises an index to the latest versions of all county and London volumes, plus the new paperback city guides produced since 2001 by Yale University Press.
"Examples of possible searches might therefore include a nationwide survey of Norman churches; the work of known architects, artists, medieval masons; church furnishings in Oxford by William Morris; or the wood-carvings by Grinling Gibbons."
From Autumn 2006 the Index will also be available on annual subscription online, with extra facilities, via the new Pevsner Index web site - www.pevsnerindex.co.uk - to provide index access to new editions of Buildings of England volumes, subject to agreement with the publisher.
