Showroom design competition launched

A youth-oriented motor vehicle brand is looking to the world's future architectural and interior designers with the launch of a new design competition.
Scion is the newest line of vehicles from Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc. Now, the Scion Floorplan competition is asking individuals to submit a complete design concept for Scion's dealership showroom. The first place winner will receive $5,000 and the opportunity to have their design brought to life.
Alan Mimaki, business operations manager for Scion, told Sapling.info:
"It has always been important for Scion to support creativity, and since the brand's inception we have worked to support musicians, artists, and filmmakers. We are very excited to add architects and interior designers and look forward to see their visions of the next generation Scion showroom."
Produced by Inform Ventures, "a traditionally non-traditional lifestyle marketing and PR firm", the contest will occur entirely online at www.scionfloorplan.com. The submission phase begins on 22 September 2006 and ends on 10 November 2006, with individuals asked to submit a drawing and written description of the design concept for a 750 square foot showroom.
The new showroom design should allow for a vehicle display, and include two specific areas - The Discovery Area and the Consultation Area. The Discovery Area is where the showroom communicates the brand's identity and potential buyers can learn about the cars. The second area is reserved for sales consultations and should be somewhat private and relatively removed from the bustle of the Discovery Area. Contestants will also be able to download assets to use and reference for their designs.
Entries will be judged by Scion executives and Commune, a creative agency that handles commercial, retail, hospitality, residential, graphic and packaging design. Judging will be based equally on four categories: Creativity, Manufacturability, Functionality and Appropriateness to the Scion Brand/Buyer. Three top design submissions will be selected and awarded prizes by early December. Second and third prize are $1,000 and $500, respectively.
