Community Alert
 http://www.communityalert.org.uk/

Community Alert is a site built and maintained by CASA at UCL for the Bloomsbury Association - the official community group in the Bloomsbury Area of Central London - and the Metropolitan Police. Described as "a community-owned anonymous anti-social behaviour reporting system", the site lets residents report crime which is monitored in a low key non-obtrusive way but informs the police of grassroots reporting of crime. Inevitably, its local focus and very specific function means that Community Alert is of little use to anyone outside Bloomsbury - however, it has wider interest simply as an innovative community site that succeeds in providing an especially clear and intuitive user interface. ECHO Stow Hill Community Website
 http://www.stowhill.org.uk/

ECHO Stow Hill Community Group in Newport, South Wales, was set up in May 2002 in response to the award of Communities First status by the Welsh Assembly Government to regenerate this inner city community. It aims to improve the quality of life in the city centre community of Stow Hill, Newport by developing relationships between the resident community, local businesses and other active groups and individuals in the area. It seeks to do this through the advancement of education and training, jobs and business, community safety, health and well being; and through improvements to the environment and other facilities in the interests of improved conditions and quality of life for all. Echo Stow Hill provides a focus for community activities and works to support local initiatives that will improve and increase opportunities for all in the Stow Hill area. The site has a fun and engaging interface, with sections covering community news and groups, events, a useful directory of local services, and background about the Communities First initiative. Elsewhere, a worthwhile 'youth' section carries reports about events and activities organised by and for young people in the Stow Hill area. [GAS, 7 Jul 2006].

The Railway Lands Group was founded in 1988 to represent residents, businesses and organisations in and around the large area of former railway land at King's Cross in London. This site is intended to document and support its work, featuring up-to-date news, details of meetings, and numerous documents (planning briefs, responses, etc.) available to download. Full details about the Group and its structures are also provided, together with a wealth of archive material, including an extensive 53-page history of the area. An excellent links page features numerous related sites, including local government, groups, businesses and resources. Visually, the site has few frills, and is perhaps a little texty; nevertheless, it succeeds in offering extensive and interesting content, and is clear and easy to navigate. [GAS, 7 Jul 2006].
