This interesting site offers information about an ASRT research project, catchily entitled 'Testing Environment Friendly Housing Layouts in Exposed Peripheral Locations around the North Sea Fringes of Europe', and which is assisted by the Commission of the European Communities LIFE funding programme. According to the site, "the product of the research is 'Index 21', a tool that will assist in improving the environment friendliness of housing layouts across the North Sea fringes of Europe". The site features information about the project and site, details of the indicators that are being monitored, a very good section of curriculum-related educational material, and a series of downloadable publications. The events page features the results of a 2002 conference, so it is not entirely clear whether the project is still ongoing or the site maintained. [MG/RS/GAS, 10 May 2006].

The Future Cities Project has been set up "to critically explore issues around the city... From the urban renaissance to the urban village; from sustainable development to under-development; from density to sprawl; from greenfield to green politics, the Future Cities Project seeks to explore why the terms of the debate - especially around cities - have become so fraught". The site is quite small, but is neatly designed (if rather text heavy), with sections covering publications, essays, book reviews, links to articles, and a reasonably up-to-date list of events. A transcripts section, with full speeches from previous Project conferences, is a particularly useful and innovative feature. [GAS, 21 Aug 2005].
