Department for Transport
 http://www.dft.gov.uk/

Eureka! A whole year since Sapling's last review, yet the DFT is still called DFT. Just to explain, the UK government department responsible for transport seems to change its name so often, Sapling has trouble keeping up. The current monicker - the straightforward Department for Transport, or DFT - follows hot on the heels of the short-lived DETR and DTLR. The site is basically divided into sections covering DFT's various responsibilities - including Aviation; Freight Logistics; Integrated Transport; Local Transport; Mobility and Inclusion; Railways; Roads, Vehicles and Road Safety; Sciench and Research; Shipping; Transport Safety and Transport Statistics. Each section is searchable, and generally includes a wealth of links to consultation papers, documents, and other relevant information. The site's tidy and professional appearance complements its value as a very useful resource. [GAS, 20 Aug 2005].

DOTARS - Department of Transport and Regional Services
 http://www.dotars.gov.au/

DOTARS, the Australian Department of Transport and Regional Services, provides policy advice to the Ministers for the Transport and Regional Services portfolio and delivers a variety of programs on behalf of the Commonwealth Government. The Department also conducts research, analysis and safety investigations; provides safety information and advice based upon these investigations; and performs regulatory functions. The DOTARS website is clearly arranged into colour-coded sections covering the key areas of interest - Transport, Regional Development, Territories of Australia and Local Government, with a further section including background about the Department itself. Overall, the layout of the site is excellent, and it succeeds in being a comprehensive and valuable resource. Awarded a Sapling Commendation. [GAS, 12 Aug 2005].

Transport Canada - Transports Canada
 http://www.tc.gc.ca/

Transport Canada's mission is "to develop and administer policies, regulations and services for the best transportation system for Canada and Canadians - one that is safe and secure, efficient, affordable, integrated and environmentally friendly". The site, available in English and French versions, is quite attractive, and reasonably straightforward to navigate. It includes comprehensive information about Transport Canada, including publications, acts and regulations; a media room with up-to-date news and events; and sections dedicated to environment, emergencies, air, marine, rail, road, and major issues.
