According to its Mission Statement, "APTA serves and leads its diverse membership through advocacy, innovation, and information sharing to strengthen and expand public transportation." The site's content is impressive in its coverage, with key sections devoted to information about APTA; US government affairs relating to public transport; APTA's services and programmes; a members only area; and an excellent selection of links. One of the most useful features of the site is the Information Centre, which includes definitions of public transport-related terminology, statistics, reports, briefings and a searchable information database. The APTA site is certainly packed with useful content, although this does make the site's design rather busy. Equally, the site's animated menus take a little getting used to. [GAS, 15 Oct 2006].

This is a useful and largely up-to-date site from an organisation campaigning for better public transport through trams, tramways, streetcars and light rail transit systems. The site features sporadically updated news and information about light rail systems in the UK and abroad (including photographs), plus useful fact sheets and membership details. The highlight is the excellent page of links, with a comprehensive, up-to-date and well-researched listing of light rail websites worldwide. On the minus side, the website's interface - with the overuse of red text and slightly chaotic layout - slightly detracts from its excellent content. Awarded a Sapling Commendation.
